Here are a few career-related tips and reminders for students interested in making some career headway in the coming months:
Remember: there’s still time to find a great opportunity.
Once students get past the stress of midterms and papers, they still have time to find a summer internship or post-graduate position. Many organizations hire in real-time for internships and entry-level positions and our staff members continue to add positions to CAREERlink, the Career Center’s online job and internship database. There are currently more than 1,500 opportunities listed with new positions added daily.
Build connections and share your success.
Networking and connecting with industry professionals continues to be the way most people get started. The WashU Alumni Association group on LinkedIn continues to grow — now with nearly 23,000 members. Students, faculty and staff are all welcome to join. Job shadowing and informational interviews continue to lead to great connections and insight.
Connect through Success Stories.
An interactive database that allows students to network with and learn from other student and recent alumni’s experiences regarding internship, research, co-op, and volunteer opportunities.
Stay in touch.
Once students know what they’re doing for the summer or after graduation, they can report their plans online to the Career Center. This helps us make connections to help students and alumni find and locate future job opportunities.
The Career Center continues to be a resource for students and alumni throughout the summer break and after graduation. It has more than 20 advisors available, including a PhD, two MDs, two JDs, and 14 advisors with master’s degrees. Students can call 314-935-5930 or just stop by the Danforth University Center to schedule an appointment.
